In 2011, the Bethel Park Baseball team shocked many fans and followers of high school baseball by making it to the WPIAL semifinals before falling short to the eventual champion Seneca Valley. The following year, 2012, the team followed that performance up by capturing their first section title in five years.
Now, lead by a senior heavy roster, the Hawks have expectations and aspirations higher than ever.
The team returns 11 seniors all with varsity baseball experience. Senior captain and four-year varsity letterman Logan Corrigan said, “Experience is key. Some guys on the squad have now played in four playoff games and know what it takes to be successful in the playoffs.”
The team is looking to improve on an 18-3 record as well. Senior pitcher Luc Cox said, “We can throw last years record out. It means nothing to anyone now. We’ve worked hard all off-season to improve our record and improve on our season last year.”
The Hawks kick their season off Friday in a non-section matchup at Fox Chapel. This starts a stretch of three games in five days, and from there, the season takes off.
“We want to do something big this year,” said senior infielder Dakota Forsyth. “We want to be remembered and we want to make a big name for Bethel Park Baseball.”
With its talented roster and momentum from last season, the Baseball team looks to make this season one for the record books.
