On December 7th, 2012, the Bethel Park Boys Varsity Basketball team began the season with their annual Bethel Park Tip-Off Tournament.
Throughout the day, students had shortened classes and were released at 1:15 to get to the gym to watch the game.
Bethel Park took on the Thomas Jefferson Jaguars with the tip-off at 1:30. Bethel Park started the game strong, and after some key scoring plays by seniors Cody Gilchrist and Ken Gilmore, the Black Hawks led 15-3 after the first quarter, despite having missed a few layups.
Bethel Park continued to dominate through the second quarter, and led 31-16 at the half.
However, Thomas Jefferson started the third quarter strong and outscored Bethel Park 13-11.
The Black Hawks got the job done, however, led by Ken Gilmore and Cody Gilchrist, and outscored Thomas Jefferson 19-9 in the fourth quarter.
The final score of the game was Bethel Park 61, Thomas Jefferson 38. Bethel Park’s leading scorers were Ken Gilmore (20 points, 16 rebounds) and Cody Gilchrist (15 points).
