Wrestling Team in a good stance to take down the competition

2011-2012 Varsity Wrestling Team

With the 2011-2012 wrestling season finally underway, the Hawks are preparing to take down the competition.

Everyday practices have already commenced and the Hawks are sprinting, grappling, and pinning their way to be a serious contender in their respective WPIAL section.

The Hawks are led by an experienced senior class of great wrestlers including Nick Sabol, Ben Nolan, Brian Brust, Dylan Mogan, Aaron Plopi, Christian Riley, and Alex Coyne.

The wrestling team will be featured in three home matches and five away matches this year.

Also, most notably, they have the privilege of competing in the 2011 Powerade Christmas Tournament. In a recent poll, the Powerade Tournament was ranked number four out of numerous prestigious wrestling tournaments around the United States.

They have their work cut out for them as they will also be wrestling in the Eastern Area Tournament, North Hills Duals, Central Catholic Invitational, Allegheny County Tournament, and not to mention three home matches against McGuffey, Trinity, and Connellsville.

Shooting deeper into the later part of the season, the Hawks hope to have a few star wrestlers qualify for the WPIAL Individual Championships. It would be a grand achievement to have one of our wrestlers represent our school by qualifying or quite possibly winning a WPIAL Championship.

Before an individual can take his talent to the next level, a wrestler must establish himself with his team first. The team has been stressing that their primary goal for this season is to improve on the subpar team record from the previous season of 6-7. Coach Stewart and his team are determined to make this season a success and hopefully one for the record books.

This is Grant Conroy, a junior at Bethel Park High School who is new to the Hawk Eye staff. This is his first year writing for the newspaper and he is already taking the online writing world by storm. He is an experienced writer due to his previous years spent in honors and advanced English classes. Grant enjoys writing primarily about sports topics and controversies, but he has a wide variety of areas in which he excels as well. While in college, he plans to utilize his 4.2 GPA to major in Journalism/Writing at the university of his choice. A few colleges that he is considering are Northwestern University, Boston University, and the University of Vermont. Outside of the classroom, Grant is a dedicated and hardworking member of the Wrestling team, Yearbook, PACS, and of course, the Hawk Eye. Additional hobbies of his include snowboarding at various mountain resorts, playing with his dog Rosie, and living life like there's no tomorrow. He plans to continue writing for the Hawk Eye during his senior year of High School.
