Bethel Park is now offering an opportunity for students to get involved in government.
This is through the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs‘ Junior Council Program.
The municipality is now accepting letters of interest and resumes from students addressed to the Borough Council, with a deadline set for June 17.
In order to be eligible, applicants must be residents of Bethel Park and currently be enrolled as high school juniors or seniors.
Applications can be sent via mail to the Municipality of Bethel Park, Junior Council Program, 5100 Library Avenue, or electronically in PDF format here.
Each school year, three to five students will be selected for the council.
Once chosen, council members will take a pledge of office and serve a term that begins in September and ends in June.
Although one may ask oneself, “What is the Bethel Park Junior Council Program?”
The program is designed to encourage BPHS students to participate in local government and share their views.
Members also complete a project, write an article for the Spring Chronicles, participate in a BPTV segment, and present a final report.
This initiative not only helps students gain insight into their government but also encourages them to become active citizens.
For further questions or more information about the program, individuals can reach out to the Junior Council Program Advisor Alison Piccolino.
