Senior Brady McCarthy jumped 13 feet, 10 inches in the pole vault in a dual against Trinity on April 21. The school’s previous record of 13 feet, 9 inches was set in 1993 by alum Scott O’Halek.
Known for his focused mindset and determination, Brady credits his success to staying in the moment, something his coach, Coach Jacobs, reinforces with the advice, “Don’t think, just act.”
McCarthy has been doing track for six years and plans to continue in college. His favorite part of track is going to meets, where he gets to compete and push himself to improve. Even after this achievement, Brady isn’t satisfied; he’s motivated to jump even farther and continue raising the bar.
When asked about McCarthy’s advice to athletes who want to join track, “It goes by fast, have fun, and don’t be scared to try new events!”
With another meet coming up this Saturday at South Fayette and experience already competing at indoor nationals, he’s showing no signs of slowing down.
