The BPSD Board of School Directors is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Matthew Patterson as the district’s 13th ever full-time superintendent.
With nearly 30 years of experience in leadership and district administration, Patterson aims to help Bethel Park enter a new era.
Patterson has a Doctor of Philosophy in Organizational Learning and Leadership from Gannon University, not to mention a Pennsylvania Superintendent Letter of Eligibility.
He also earned a master’s degree in educational leadership and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, now a part of PennWest University.
Those impressive achievements lead to great job opportunities as well.
Patterson is currently serving as the Executive Director of Secondary Education and Instruction for the Fox Chapel Area School District.
In this role, he oversees middle and high school programs and supports over 2,200 students and 180 educators.
Before that, Patterson spent seven years as assistant superintendent in the West Jefferson Hills School District.
Alongside this, he worked in various central office and building-level roles in the Corry Area School District.
Nevertheless, Patterson will succeed retiring superintendent Dr. James Walsh, who is set to leave public education in June.
“It is a profound honor to join the Bethel Park School District. I have great respect for the student-centered focus, courageous leadership, and community dedication found here, and I thank the Board of School Directors for the trust they have placed in me,” said Patterson. “I am eager to begin partnering with the students, staff, and families who make Bethel Park such a vibrant place to learn and grow, as we collectively build a bright, innovative future for all of our students.” (Mr. James Cromie, bpsd.org)
Additional information will be released in the coming weeks as he begins the transition into Bethel Park to help in officially assuming his role.
