On Oct. 24, during halftime of the varsity football game vs. Peters Township, the Marching Band will celebrate all its senior members.
Each year’s Senior Class selects a song to perform during halftime, and this year they chose “Play That Funky Music” by Wild Cherry
Seniors Boyd Alspach and Riley Smith are very excited for this year’s senior night!
“After so many years seeing the past seniors have their night, it is weird to think that it’s now our time for that same night! I find it hard to believe that our senior night is already here!” Alspach said.
“I am super excited for senior night! I have been looking forward to this all year. It is bittersweet that it might be my last time marching on our field, but I couldn’t be more excited. So I will make it my best one yet!” Smith said.
While the instrumentalists took time to learn the music, the Bethettes and majorettes created a whole new routine for the senior song!
The Bethette routines are usually created by the head Bethettes, Halie Minor and Emily Wiles, but on senior night, each senior can create their own 8-count routine to perform.
Senior Peyton Michaels is very excited for senior night as well!
“Watching one of the best parts of my life come to a close is sad, but at the same time, I am so proud and so grateful for the joy these 3 years have brought me. Bethettes has been such a big motivation for me, and I am so thankful to the people who brought so much joy into it. Creating my senior 8 made me feel as if I am leaving my mark as this chapter of my life comes to a close,” she said.
Another tradition is for some of the senior band members to dance with the majorettes. Head Majorette Gabriella Walsh choreographed a routine and worked on moves that these band members could do. This year, there will be nine senior boy band members dancing with the majorettes. The pairs are as follows:
- Gabriella Walsh – Parker Walton
- Francesca Balkovec – Samuel Hoppe
- Lyla Miller – Logan Flood
- Ava Friday – Boyd Alspach
- Emma Demartino – Nathan George
- Veronica Balkovec – Christian Tabler
- Cece Roberto – Caden Smith
- Charlotte Glisan – Wyatt Sodini
- Marina Yee – TJ Burt
Alongside other traditions, the student directors will create the charting for the halftime show. This year, Holly McGough and Parker Walton had the pleasure of creating it. They created charting to have the band shape out a boombox and then the number 26.
“I think it is a really fun challenge to get the shapes and timing all right, and decide how to arrange everyone. I am really excited to teach it to everyone and actually get to see it on the field!” McGough said.
“What a unique experience it is getting to design the formations that everyone knows and loves. I am so excited to see it all come together with the music!” Walton said.
The Class of 2026 seniors are super excited to showcase their senior show this year! The show and senior class will be announced at the game!
