On May 24, 2023, BPHS senior Anthony Hughes released his new rock album called “Angelic.” The album contains “I Turn Away,” Hughes’s single he released earlier this year.

Hughes, recently voted best musician by his classmates, is a member of Jazz Ensemble, Top 21, and Symphonic Band. He also participates in drumline in the marching band and musicals.

“The inspiration for it came from just my admiration for guys like Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen whose music I’ve been listening to and obsessing over for the past couple of years,” Hughes said when asked what inspired him to write the album.

Since his freshman year, Hughes wrote about 50 songs and picked the best nine to include in the album. Hughes wrote and recorded the album with two other BPHS students and one Mt. Lebanon student.

Hughes said: “Although all the writing and a lot of the arranging came from me, I want to give credit to Jason Turske, Cayden Lodge, and Zack O’Connor for taking the ideas I laid down and bringing them to the next level. Some of my favorite parts of the album came from the contributions of the guys in the band.”

Hughes recorded the vocals and played piano, BPHS Senior Jason Turske played drums, BPHS junior Cayden Lodge played bass, and Mt. Lebanon senior Zack O’Connor played guitar on the album.

Hughes’s favorite song on the album is “I’ll Come Back to You (Tonight).”

The album can be streamed on Apple Music and Spotify. Make sure to check it out!
