After winning a section title their 2021 season, the Bethel Park girls lacrosse team start off their 2022 season in high spirits.

Last year, the Lady Hawks held a record of 14-3 by the end of their season and are ready to improve it.

“I’m excited to be starting this year’s lacrosse season,” said varsity captain Tori Krapp. “It was sad to see our seniors go but I still feel like we have a pretty strong lineup. I’m excited to see where the new and existing talent on the team takes us. I love being back with this group of girls for my last season.”

The Lady Hawks graduated three seniors last year: Lucia Coccagno, Jade Fucarro, and Kenna Moriarty. However, the team gained seven new players this season.

The Lady Hawks’ season started on March 7 with tryouts week and they are already working hard to keep their status of section champs.

“I could give you some standard quote about how this senior class is very talented and we have been building to this season for years and expectations are high and all that, but that would be half the story,” said head coach Becky Luzier. “What that quote fails to honor is what a truly special group of young women and leaders this team is composed of.”

The seniors of the team are Megan Cunningham, Sydney Kosko, Tori Krapp, Lily Marchand, Chloe McDaniel, Riley Miller, Caitlyn Schultz, Maddy Walters, and Kaitlyn Wiard.

The juniors are Corinne Hewes, Meghan Krapp, Amanda Lincoln, Ashleigh Manns, Carley O’Mara, and Katherine Tena.

The sophomores are Olivia Dzikowski and Averie Moul.

The freshmen are Madelyn Banes, Kylie Kasievich, Eli Moore, Ally Wolling, and Haley Wulenschell.

“The tenacity and creativity and humor that [these girls] bring to each and every practice and game is unparalleled in my 21 years of coaching,” said Luzier. “I have never run to a practice for the sheer joy of coaching like I have over the last few seasons.”

This year will be head coach Becky Luzier’s 14th season coaching the Lady Hawks.

The assistant coach is Taylor Connors who is a Bethel Park girls lacrosse alumni.

The first section title ever won for the Bethel Park girls lacrosse team was during Connors’ senior year in 2012, and nine years later, when the second title was won last year, Connors was coaching the team.

The team brought in a new coach this year. Coach Jackie Rutkowski who played lacrosse for Upper Saint Clair and IUP.

The 2022 captains are Megan Cunningham, Meghan Krapp, Tori Krapp, Carley O’Mara, and Caitlyn Schultz.

“[These girls] will make their mark again on program history just like they have every season for the last 4 years but more importantly, they will leave a legacy in my heart and in the hearts of each other,” said Becky Luzier. “With everything we have all lived through and see around us right now, that’s what they’ll remember, that a lot of unexpected challenges can come and you can still be true to yourself and make memories with the people you care about and work towards a common goal with both focus and fun.”
