Jenna Lang runs up a hill at the Red, White, and Blue Invite at White Oak.

Freshman Jenna Lang led the team with a third-place finish at the Red, White, & Blue Invite on Saturday, Sept. 19.

Making the transition from middle school cross country to high school can be difficult. For starters, the course is 2,000 meters longer. Freshman Jenna Lang was unphased, as she handled the 3.1-mile course at White Oak Park like a seasoned veteran.

She crossed the finish line in third place with a time of 18:44 (her own personal record).

There were 141 girls in the AAA race, including returning WPIAL and PIAA cross country champion Mia Cochran from Moon and 800-meter and 1600-meter WPIAL and PIAA track champion Melissa Riggins. Cochran finished first and Riggins placed second in the race.

“I was battling between third and fourth place the whole race, so when I crossed the finish line, only seconds before the fourth-place girl, I felt so excited that I had come in the top three,” said Lang.

Lang’s teammate, returning PIAA silver medalist and Oklahoma State recruit Emily Carter, did not race.

Lang and the team will return to White Oak on Saturday, Oct. 3 for the White Oak Invite.

White Oak will also be home to the TSTCA Invite and the WPIAL Championships later in the season.
