Trainer Bob is moving on
The guy with the most ordinary name did the most extraordinary things.
After 13 years of serving BPHS athletes and coaches, head trainer Bob Smith is moving on.
As of the end of the football season, Mr. Smith, or just Bob, as everyone refers to him as, will be taking his talents to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, a professional soccer team that competes in the USL Championship and plays at Highmark Stadium.
On Thursday, Nov. 7, BPHS students and staff went down to the gym to celebrate Trainer Bob and all he has done for the student-athletes.
Dr. J emceed the event. He spoke about Bob’s dedication to the school and care for the students. Then, Bob took the microphone and thanked the students and staff for their support. He also went on to say that he would never forget BPHS.
Senior Ryan Meis said: “Bob was there for anything any athlete ever needed. He was a great guy.”
Senior Parker Loera said: “He was there since the beginning, you know that he would get you the treatment you needed. He is the real deal. We are going to miss him.”
Trainer Anna Zigmond will take over as the head athletic trainer and we will welcome newcomer Brian Polinski to the staff.
Bob will be deeply missed by the BPHS community for all of his efforts to help student-athletes get on the playing field healthy. We thank for all he has done for Bethel Park!
As Ryan Meis said, “You can take Bob out of BP, but you can’t take the BP out of Bob.”
