On Friday, March 14, there were numerous exciting events going on at BPHS. One of the most extravagant events was happening in room 332, where they were having a celebration of Pi Day.
In the room, there was a lady by the name of Pi Woman who looked eerily similar to Mrs. Robb, except for the fact that she was wearing a cape and sunglasses with multiple π symbols all over it.
Pi Day is a celebration commemorating the mathematical constant π. Pi Day is observed on March 14 since 3, 1, and 4 are the three most significant digits of π in the decimal form.
Pi Woman has been celebrating Pi Day for around 17 years at the High School, but before this she was at Independence Middle School. Out of all the years she has been teaching students about Pi Day, she said, “The most unique year that I have celebrated Pi Day has been this one. This is the first year where I used Twitter to spread the word of Pi Day. It is such a great way to interact with other students other than Mrs. Robb’s classes.”
She feels that students should know that, “Pi is a way to celebrate math, science and life. Because without Pi, things just would not be, and that Pi is both mythical and mystical, profound and profoundly silly.”
Pi Woman has huge plans for Pi Day next year because the next two numbers in Pi are going to be used in the date. She is going to need help with ideas for making it the most insane Pi Day ever. Contact her with ideas on Twitter @PiDayFun.
