Coming into the high school on Tuesday, Mar. 4, Mrs. O’Connor, a substitute teacher, was shell-shocked. Scurrying down Blackhawk Drive, O’Connor was confused.
“I was excited to be subbing at Bethel,” O’Connor said. “It was just a normal day and as I saw the high school over the hillside, I was confused. The security guard reassured me that I was in the right place.” Even though O’Connor was a substitute at the old campus, she wasn’t aware of the construction of the new high school.
Subsequently, over six years ago, O’Connor left the greater Pittsburgh region to pursue a teaching job in Florida.
Subbing for Miss Tkach, physics teacher, to O’Connor’s surprise, she found Mrs. Murphy sitting in the main office.
O’Connor said, “When I subbed at the old campus six years ago, I would always check in with Mrs. Murphy in building four. This time she introduced me to the new high school.”
Following the introduction from Mrs. Murphy, O’Connor stumbled upon Dr. J. Dr. J proceeded by giving her a tour of the high school, explaining to her the new technological advancements, as all classrooms are equipped with short-throw projectors.
O’Connor became a renewed substitute teacher in December. She flocked back to the area, expressing that teaching at Bethel is her dream job.
O’Connor said, “I just love teaching at Bethel Park. The students and faculty are so amazing. I would do anything to teach here full time.”
O’Connor accentuated her desire to become a teacher at the high school. “I’ll be sticking around here in the area for a long, long time,” O’Connor said.
