Junior Matt Dulavitch has recently won first place in the Computer Maintenance Competition, and now, he’s moving to states in Hershey, PA.
Generally speaking, Dulavitch doesn’t get into the spotlight much. However, that will be a thing of the past, since he entered in this revealing competition.
What is this competition about, though? In an interview, Dulavitch said it is a competition emphasizing the strengths of students, according to their class category.
In the most recent contest in the competition, Dulavitch had to take parts of a computer and make the internet work by assembling an internet router. A prerequisite for the contest, he was required to know the “anatomy” of a computer, as well as being able to identify the parts of one. Also, a written, 200-question test was taken to prove his intelligence.
The judges used a point system determining how accurately the students answered the questions and how well the problem was fixed. The winner, Dulavitch, was chosen, based on who had the most points.
During the interview, Dulavitch was asked about where he retained his skills. He said, “Ever since I remember, I’ve been interested in computers, repairing them, working on them, gaming on them, stuff like that.”
Dulavitch sees his future being past states and eventually nationals. Thinking beyond high school, the careers he is most interested in are IT support and security. However, he is still in high school and has a long way to go, but he has a bright future ahead of him.
