Earlier in the month of November, Ms. Findlay, who teaches English class, showed her English 9 students a very powerful message. Ms. Findlay’s cousin, Sgt. Wright, had a Skype call with her English 9 class.
The students had a week to prepare questions and cards for the squad who is held up in the Egyptian Peninsula. The students were put into a group of two and assigned a soldier from Sgt. Wright’s group. After preparing the questions and having them sent off to Egypt, they also had the experience to write down a couple questions to ask Sgt. Wright during the Skype call.
“Your always homesick,” said Wright, to the students that asked him the question. Wright went on to clarify that you’re are always missing home, and you can never really get over the fact that you are really far away from home. The students continued to ask questions till the period ended. The students said their goodbyes to the Sargent, but the interaction between the students and the soldiers did not end there.
After the soldiers received their letters, a Specialist Daniel Valentin from Sgt. Wright’s group, contacted Dr. J with a message. SPC Valentin went on to clarify that he received the letters from two students, Anthony Baker and Jeremy Murphy, of Ms. Findlay’s class. He thanked the students and went on about his experience in the Egyptian Peninsula. The students received the e-mail from the soldier and were astounded that their very own letter could make it halfway across the world and make a difference to someone.
