During the month of October, people often wonder what they can do to help support breast cancer research.
Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and the Sports and Entertainment Management class decided they were going to help support this cause by selling pink bandannas and by having a doughnut sale. St. Clair Hospital sent a letter suggesting that students use the bandannas to create awareness for the importance of breast cancer research.
The students decided that they would sell the bandannas and donate all money back to St. Clair’s Breast Care Center. For one week before the football game on Friday, Oct. 18, FBLA and the Sports and Entertainment Management vigorously sold bandannas during their lunch periods. Every day during the week, the students went around and encouraged their classmates to support breast cancer research and buy one of the bandannas. At the end of the week, all the students were amazed to find that they had raised over $800 by selling every one of the bandannas.
The students in the class were satisfied knowing that they had done a little to help support the fight against breast cancer. Then, that Friday, all the students that had purchased a bandanna wore them to school in a student body wide showing of support for breast cancer patients and research.
Furthermore, the following Friday, the FBLA members sold 20 dozen donuts, which were generously donated by Dave’s Terrace Bakery in Baldwin, PA. The students were able to raise over $300 in doughnut sales. With the help of other generous donations, the FBLA and Sports and Entertainment Management students were able to donate a total of $1,200 to the St. Clair Hospital Cancer Center. The check was presented by Dr. Jansante to St. Clair Hospital.
