Last week, BPHS varsity football players and cheerleaders visited Bethel Park elementary schools’ lunches to teach the students about nutrition and exercise.
At Washington Elementary, Ryan Sosnak, Zack Schmidt, and Jake Murphy, varsity football players, helped serve lunches, while Taylor Evans, Josie Valvo, and Chelsea Farner, varsity cheerleaders, talked to students in line and at their tables about nutrition.
Taylor, Josie, and Chelsea said, “Eating healthy can take you far in life and help you do your best, help you have a positive outlook on life, and achieve your goals.”
The students were served the choices of pasta, chicken patty, or chicken tenders. They were given the opportunity to choose an entree and one of the choices of vegetable cups and one of the choices of fruit cups or fruit juice. It was also recommended to grab a milk, but it wasn’t mandatory. The football players helped to make sure the elementary school students did this.
Zack Schmidt said, “Coming to talk to the kids, we hope to promote healthy eating habits.”
The students got a view of how eating healthy can affect not only athletes, but everyone in their everyday lives.
They received autographs from the football players and cheerleaders. They were also given Bethel Park beads, wristbands, and great information on nutrition and exercise they can use to live a long, healthy life.
