Three Bethel Park students will be honored at the 23rd Premier Performers Sports Banquet on Sunday, May 19 at 6:30 PM at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
Senior soccer and track athlete Angelina Baroffio and junior basketball player Megan Marecic are Female Finalists for The Almanac’s Premier Performers Award.
The Almanac’s Premier Performers sports banquet has been a tradition in the area for a long time, which honors schools’ top athletes. A nominee does not need to be a senior or participate in more than one sport to obtain this title.
The candidate must exhibit good academic excellence and be a role model in and outside of their athletic arena.
Angelina Baroffio participates in Girls Soccer and Varsity Track for BPHS. Angelina reached many goals throughout her four years as a Bethel Park Black Hawk.
“Individually, I was honored to be the team captain this year as well as one of the WPIALs top scorers,” Angelina said. “I also was very proud to be named to the All-State Team my senior year.”
This honor truly means the most to Angelina. She said this honor shows all of her hard work finally paid off because she came a long way in her sport during her four years of high school.
When asked about college, Angelina replied, “I am going to be attending Dusquense next year to play soccer. I am very excited to have been recruited by a Division I school.”
And finally, Angelina cannot wait to experience the banquet.
“It will be a cool experience to be with other athletes that have excelled in their sport,” she said.
The other female finalist is junior, Megan Marecic. Megan is a proud leader of the Lady Hawk Basketball Team.
Megan’s junior year turned out to be a very eventful experience for her.
“My accomplishment this year, individually, was scoring my 1,000th point,” Megan said.
Megan scored her 1,000th point in a basketball game against Seneca Valley at Seneca Valley during a non-section game.
Ultimately, Megan’s greatest team accomplishment happened when she helped her team win a WPIAL title. This year’s Lady Hawks were first to deem the title of “WPIAL Champions” in Bethel Park Girls Basketball history. Also, Megan said that another team accomplishment was beating Mt. Lebanon at home in the new gym.
“I am honored because it means that I get to represent my team and all of our accomplishments,” Megan said.
Just like Angelina, Megan cannot wait for the experience of a lifetime to enjoy a special time with her family and other athletes to celebrate this honor.
“I am looking forward to it, I’m very excited!!!” Megan exclaimed.
Next season, Megan hopes to continue the Team’s success by making it to the WPIAL playoffs again to compete with another Quad A team. She feels they should make a run in the States next year and win it all.
“As for my individual career, I plan to play in college. As of where, still to be determined,” Megan explained.
Wherever Megan Marecic decides to play, she will be greatly appreciated and welcomed.
Of equal importance, Senior golfer and hockey player Brody Taylor is a Male Finalist for the Almanac’s Premier Performers Award.
Congratulations Brody, Angelina and Megan on this honor!
