At Bethel Park High School, no student is ever left behind or not paid sufficient attention to in times of need. When a fellow citizen is in a deal of trouble, the entire community, not just the high school, enthusiastically chips-in.
That being said, the Bethel Park community recently recieved a crushing, tragic blow.
Siblings Katelyn and Tyler Parker are both students in the Bethel Park School District and have been for their entire lives. Katelyn is an elementary schooler at Ben Franklin Elementary School, and Tyler is a Junior at the High School.
Recently, Katelyn and Tyler faced tragedy, as their mother suddenly passed away for undetermined reasons. In addition, no more than 18 months ago, the family lost their father in a motorcycle accident. Needless to say, the family needed a way to stay financially stable and maintain a normal style of living.
Well, BPHS came to the rescue by organizing and carrying out a spaghetti dinner to raise significant funds on the family’s behalf. Multiple committee meetings with BPHS and Ben Franklin officials, approximately 6 or 7, allowed for the dinner to be set-up and organized properly.
The dinner included a Dellalo’s and Pasta Too feast with pasta, meatballs, and sauce being donated from each restaurant. The event ended up being an utter success as almost 1,000 tickets were sold that went for either $5 or $10 a piece; however, as well as the tickets, many additional donations from others accumulated even more money for the family.
Principal of Bethel Park High School, Dr. Zeb Jansante, said, “Everyone in Bethel Park stepped up and did a great job for a great cause.”
Ben Franklin Elementary Schol PTO organized chinese auction baskets with donations from many credible sponsors. The earned money for the family will be dispensed once the commitee decides how and in what manner to distribute it.
