Kris Hulefeld, a senior at Bethel Park High school, is Hawk Eye’s Student Artist of the Week.
Kris has been practicing all types of art since she was six years old. She has been involved in art classes all four years of high school, perfecting her art abilities.
Her inspiration is a well known 19th c. Polish artist, Tamara de Lempicka, who draws haunting portraits of women in stylish dresses.
Over the summer, Kris went into a three week art program at Detroit College for creative studying, painting and drawing figures.
She has been working on “The Naked Man” painting on and off for about two months. This painting began as a woman before she decided to change it along with her mind-set towards men and being sexist. Her inspiration for this painting began with her struggle of being sexist towards men. This is one of the ways she began to comprehend why people believe it is okay to be sexist towards men, when it is such a problem to do the same to the opposite gender. This piece allows her to channel and express her ideas.
