From the Desk of Dr. J: Courtyard Closing

When one goes to school, they might use the courtyard to go from one class to another. However, over the winter, they might have seen a note on a courtyard door that reads: “The courtyard is closed today. When the courtyard is closed, all doors are locked.” You might wonder, why is that?

“The courtyard is closed during all bad weather,” Dr. J said. “It is closed to avoid issues.”

During severe weather like snow, many bad things can happen. This can range from slipping on ice to snowball fights. These events can cause serious injuries. In addition, if someone gets hurt, the school is liable.

“We will not put students and staff at an unnecessary risk with the ice in the courtyard,” Dr. J said.

With ice, it is easy for one to slip and break a bone, tooth, or another item. The school is taking extreme precautions to stop someone from getting seriously hurt.

“It is a simple decision [for us to protect our students and faculty],” Dr. J said.

And, even though it might be a hassle for one to walk around the school to get to their next class instead of the courtyard, it is for the ultimate safety for all of us to walk the longer way instead of taking the risk of getting injured.
