One would think that General Motors would turn things around and put out a good product after being bailed out by the government in 2009.
Apparently not, because GM has recalled trucks, SUVs and cars all in the first three months of 2014.
Just this year, GM has already recalled half a million 2014 trucks and 2015 SUVs that have faulty transmission oil cooler lines that can cause oil leaks that may burst into flames.
Also, GM has recalled 172,000 2013 and 2014 Chevy Cruzes with the 1.4 liter turbo engine. The passenger side front axleshaft can crack and separate under normal driving circumstances.
Don’t worry, GM has not just recalled new cars. 2.6 million 05-10 Chevy Cobalts, 05-07 Pontiac G5s, 03-07 Saturn Ions, 06-11 Chevy HHRs, 06-10 Pontiac Solstices, and 07-10 Saturn Skys are part of a recall to fix faulty ignition switches that under “certain conditions” can shut off by themselves.
This results in the vehicle losing power steering and power brakes, and the airbags will not deploy in the event of an accident.
GM suggests that owners remove all other keys and the key fob from the ignition key so the added weight will not shut the car off.
This recall is the result of the vehicles causing 13 deaths and many other injuries. The majority of the victims were young people under the age of 25.
The worst thing is that GM knew the vehicles had faulty ignitions switches for at least 10 years, yet only started recalling vehicles in February 2014.
With three recalls in the first three months of the year, it seems GM is still not putting out a well made product and it’s only a matter of time before they completely lose Americans’ trust.
Owners of any GM vehicle should make sure their vehicle has not been recalled, and if it has, get it fixed.
