The holiday season is a time we celebrate with our loved ones. However, some folks cannot provide for their loved ones, let alone celebrate.
Adopt-A-Family is a program which is run by the Salvation Army that matches families in need to sponsors in order to help families celebrate Christmas.
This past holiday season, Officer Tom Rigatti once again brought the program to Bethel Park.
Officer Rigatti worked with Mrs. Hornfeck, Health teacher at BPHS, to bring the program to the High School as well. They collected gift cards and also money to purchase gift cards that were given out to families in the community who were in need.
Numerous people donated and did so generously. BPHS exceeded their goal and raised $1,060 which contributed to helping out 53 families, including 9 senior citizen families.
Officer Rigatti said: “Your kindness and generosity were quite honestly overwhelming. As the families arrived to pick up their gifts, there was a lot of emotion. Seeing some of the families faces when they picked up their gifts was so gratifying. It truly is hard to put into words to describe the feeling. Thank you all very much and I certainly hope you all will consider doing it all again next year.”
The support for the cause just shows how great the people of our community actually are. Well done BP.
