50 fantastic features of fall
Fall is here at last! This season, with all of its changing beauty, is wonderfully described by author Sarah Addison Allen like so: “It looked like the world was covered in a cobbler crust of brown sugar and cinnamon.” And, with that in mind, here are 50 fantastic features of fall:
- The weather begins to change! The warm, sunny skies of summer are amazing, of course, but when the temperature hits about 60 degrees, there’s a certain joyful recognition that autumn is truly upon us.
- Halloween! This holiday, full of tricks and treats, is a popular favorite among people of all ages.
- Thanksgiving! Speaking of holidays, here’s another one, and a great one, at that!
- Candy Corn is commonly found at local stores again! This sweet treat, though somewhat controversial, sits proudly on shop shelves this time of year.
- The leaves changing colors! This is most definitely a sight worth seeing, as brown, green, red, orange, and yellow colors coat the ground in a prepossessing pattern that’s not to be missed.
- Pumpkin patches! Because why not?
- Apple picking! It’s a great chance to get outside and to see where farm grown apples are harvested.
- Warmer clothes, such as sweaters, boots, scarves, etc., are worn more often this time of year!
- Hay rides are ready and open for business!
- Being able to drink hot cocoa! (whether it’s really all that cold out or not!)
- Having bonfires and/or sitting by a warm, comforting fireplace.
- Drinking warm apple cider.
- Football is in season again! (marching band is back too, of course)
- Pumpkin spice and everything nice have returned! Not everyone enjoys the classic Pumpkin Spice Latte, or even pumpkin flavoring in general, but it’s definitely most common this time of year.
- It gets light out earlier in the morning, meaning lots of people get the chance to catch the sunset on their way to work or school!
- The air feels crisp and fresh.
- The falling leaves are a great reminder to try new things!
- Fall scented candles stack the shelves with a variety of unique fragrances.
- Autumn decorations are always fun! From creepy ghouls and skeletons to colorful wreaths and “Autumn Greetings” signs, this season is full of the opportunity to get creative with your home decor.
- There’s nothing like those rainy falls nights where a bowl of soup is just what you need.
- New seasons of your favorite t.v. shows are back in business!
- Spending the night at home while watching movies, playing board games, or doing something of the sort.
- Baking! Cookies, brownies, pumpkin bread, etc. are all common delectables made during these autumnal months.
- Nature creates some great photography opportunities this time of year, from leaf piles to friendly smiles.
- Speaking of leaf piles, what about jumping in leaves? Raking leaves, after jumping in them, might not be too enjoyable, but it still gives you the chance to stay connected to the world around you.
- Life seems to start to calm down during fall.
- Going on a hike or a bike ride! The trails are calling, apparently.
- The clocks get turned back an hour on Nov. 5, at 2:00 A.M.
- Plaid clothing!
- All things cinnamon and sugar.
- Carving pumpkins! (and eating their seeds?)
- School is back in session, whether good or bad!
- You can wear hats and jackets!
- Going to a Haunted House, Hayride, and/or Walking Trail!
- Especially during autumn, family time seems to be a big aspect of many people’s lives.
- Pie! Really, pie not?
- Apple flavored donuts! (I guess these are a thing, and a seemingly tasty one at that!)
- Trying to figure your way through a corn maze!
- Bobbing for apples!
- Costume contests, and really, just costumes in general!
- An eeriness that is usually felt right around Halloween.
- Warm, comfortable socks and blankets!
- Autumn is the perfect time to catch up with those you haven’t seen in a while! As schedules tend to slow down, free time might just increase for some, enabling ample time to rekindle old friendships!
- September is, according to www.kiplinger.com, “off-season for Broadway, so it’s a good time to find deals on tickets to shows…”
- Time off from school for various holidays and other events!
- Turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, biscuits, corn, etc.
- The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!
- El dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is celebrated at the beginning of November, mainly in Mexico.
- Watching scary movies and/or t.v. shows!
- The autumn months are a great time to travel, as tourism decreases in comparison to the summer.
