Student Musician of the Week: Patrick Counihan
Patrick Counihan, formally known as Patty Ice, is an 18-year-old senior and a member of the BPHS Music Department. Patrick is a part of both concert band and marching band as a trombone player.
Patrick began playing the trombone in 3rd grade with private lessons and then joined elementary level band in 4th grade.
Now, in high school, as an instrumentalist, Patrick’s enjoys making noise at the football games and being a part of the Friday night excitement with his friends. He also likes playing the stands tunes as he cheers on the Hawks.
Patrick says his best marching band memory is when he slipped and fell on the field in the middle of a half time show and everyone had to march around him. Other notable memories include the time the whole band made a detour to find him a bathroom on the way to a playoff game in Altoona and the time at the summer parade at Kennywood when he got to march behind the Santa Clause float.
As the music department trip to Disney approaches, Patrick looks forward to performing in the Concert Band competition and spending time in the parks.
Outside of school, Patrick likes to jam out to Bruno Mars. When asked about his other interests he says, “I love America.” Patrick has surely made his mark in the music department.
