Molly’s Musings: The not-so-fun gift of being ungrateful
Christmas is right around the corner, even though the weather’s not feeling it. But it’s okay, because a warm Christmas isn’t so bad.
Now let me tell you what IS bad. Ungratefulness. I got home last night and saw only a few gifts under the tree and my first thought was, Is that everything? I have never felt so ashamed of myself, because I’m lucky to be getting ANYTHING from my family. And if you’re getting something for Christmas, you are too.
There are people in this world who can’t afford food for their stomachs, clothes for their backs, a roof over their heads, etc. And we want to sit here and complain because we didn’t get the right color laptop or the wrong phone. Hey, at least you got something!
My parents are newly separated, and this is my first year spending Christmas in a new territory. I’m not used to getting 3 or 4 things for Christmas, and last night, for a split second, I was feeling ungrateful. But then I remembered that Christmas is not about the getting, it’s about spending time with your family and friends, and the spirit of God and Jesus Christ, and the giving.
So this year, if you’re lucky enough to get anything at all, please be grateful for it, because whoever got that for you, they worked hard to get it. Whether it’s a $5 eye shadow palette, or a gift card to Chick-fil-A, or even a few bucks to add to your spending money.
It’s not about how much someone spends on you, it’s always the thought that counts.
