“Are people born wicked, or do they have wickedness thrust upon them?”
This quote is one of the famous lines in the musical called Wicked.
When people think of The Wizard of Oz and the wicked witch, they think of a horrible person that always was horrible and evil. But was the wicked witch always this wicked?
The musical Wicked is about the life before Elphaba (the wicked witch) and Glinda (the good witch) became the witches of Oz.
This musical is a recommended show because of the story and the fantastic display of each of the actor’s talents.
The plot of the story is amazing because each of the questions one may have from The Wizard of Oz is answered. Viewers also get to see how each of the characters, including the tin man, the scarecrow, and the cowardly lion, become who they are.
The characters are also played very well by the actors and immediately one becomes attached to their favorite characters. Even though this story is part of a made up land, one feels like they truly can connect with each of the characters and their problems through their life.
Not only is the plot amazing, but the music was spectacular. Each song gets stuck in one’s head and they will never get tired of it.
Also, the music has a variety of emotions built into them. Some songs make one laugh out loud, but other songs can make a viewer choke on tears.
Without this music, this story wouldn’t have the same effect to the audience as it does with it.
Some of these songs include the following: “Defying Gravity,” “Popular,” “The Wizard and I,” “For Good,” “One Short Day,” and “No Good Deed.”
All of the songs on the soundtrack were composed by Al Jourgensen.
Even though the music and plot was good, there is one thing that really made the show: the acting.
The acting of the show was spectacular and the people that portrayed each of the characters was amazing. Without the emotion these actors and actress put into the show, the musical would have never been as spectacular as it was.
This must see musical will be worth every penny in buying the tickets.
Abby Hartzell, a sophomore, says, “This musical has changed the way I will look at the Wicked Witch!”
So what is the answer to the question, “Are people really born wicked or do they have wickedness thrust upon them?”
Only the Wicked can answer your question.
