Every day has a holiday. From National Icee Day to Talk Like a Pirate Day, the extent of the holidays are nearly endless. Here are the holidays from December 2nd to December 8th:
December 2nd-Fritters Day– Despite the fact it’s the first Sunday of December one should also take into account fritters are being celebrated. It’s sad to say many people do not really know what a “fritter” is. A fritter is a fried cake or dought with fruit or meats inside. Please, whatever you decide to do, do not fritter this magnificent day away without at least trying one fritter. Happy National Fritters Day!
December 3rd-National Roof Over Your Head Day- The goal of this thankful day is to hopefully appreciate all you have, starting with the roof that is over our heads. In that case, Happy National Roof Over Your Head Day! For most people, having a stable roof over their head signifies living in a home that keeps us dry, warm, and cozy but also protects us. Believe it or not, some people are not as blessed as you and I. Take a moment to think about the large number of homeless people there are in our country. Some of them call a cardboard box on the side of the street home, and others live in poverty day to day. They will never get to have that comfort feeling of a true home. Just take some time out of the day to be thankful for the roof over your head.
December 4th-Wear Brown Shoes Day- On December 4th, somewhere someone got tired of sporting the same old, boring pair of black shoes. Today is Wear Brown Shoes Day! It is not very hard to celebrate this unique day. So go break out a flashy pair of your favorite brown shoes whether it be some fancy Ugg boots, loafers, or any other shoe that is brown. Guess what the sock color of the day is? If you did not know, it happens to also be brown! Have a great, joyful Wear Brown Shoes Day.
December 5th-Bathtub Party Day- What could be more relaxing or recooperating than a nice, warm bubble bath in the middle of the week? I will tell you; nothing is more relaxing than that! Go tell your mother or loved one to prepare a bubble bath for you when you return home, because today is bathtub party day! How soothing does that sound? Do not let anything interrupt the peace, quietness, and serenity of your bath today! I highly encourage you to get to a bathtub after school and light some candles, pop a bottle….of coke, and have some snacks within reach to full enjoy this wonderful day!
December 6th-Saint Nicholas Day- Let’s take a trip back in time to about December 6, 348 A.D. to acknowlegde the death of a very special, very holy person. He goes by the name of Saint Nicholas. December 6th represents St. Nicholas Day. Yes, a christian Saint Nicholas really existed in the country of Greece. Saint Nicholas, starting off as a priest, later became a bishop of the early Catholic Church and was true to the christian concept of giving up belongings. The tradition to hang stockings also orignated with Saint Nicholas. The legend states St. Nicholas threw small bags of gold coins in the windows of the poor homes. After one time the bag fell into a stocking, the word got around quite rapidly. It was not until around the 1800’s that the spirit of Saint Nicholas’ life turned into the creation of Santa Claus. Thank this day for us having a Santa Claus and a Christmas!
December 7th-National Cotton Candy Day- Might want to schedule a dentist appointment for December 8th. December 7th is about cotton candy and nothing but it. The Cotton Candy machine was patented in 1899 by William Morrison and John C. Wharton. Morrison and Wharton brought it to the St. Louis World’s Fair in 1904 where it became quite popular. Cotton Candy normally exists at circuses, amusement parks, fairs, and sporting venues. Cotton Candy was orginally called fairy floss because it was made from floss (or Flossine) sugar! Did you learn something new today? Well, go enjoy a huge bag of Cotton Candy!
December 8th-National Brownie Day- December 8th celebrates the chocolate, chewy brownies. The fact that all browny lovers, love chocolate and all chocolate lovers, love brownies only provides more reasons to have a special day for the celebration of brownies! Everyone and anyone can be apart of this beautiful, chocolately day. Just go select your favorite brownie recipe, and bake as many brownies as your eyes think they can consume. Add nuts or nothing at all to your brownies, but do not forget the frosting. Finally, eat them! You can have brownies for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a snack. Happy a great day! P.S. Do not forget your glass of milk!
