The ambient, post-rock band all the way from Reykjavik, Iceland, Sigur Rós, have made their way to the top of post-rock music.
The band formed in 1994 producing a sound unlike any band before. They have produced about nine albums since they have started.
Sigur Rós has a very interesting name and some may wonder where the name came from and what does it mean. The name Sigur Rós is the name of Jonsi Birgisson’s sister Sigurrós. Jonsi is the falsetto vocalist of the group whose vocals create a very distinct and sometimes dark sound.
The use of a bowed guitar is frequently utilized creating a subtle ambience into the band’s songs.
Like most post-rock the band does create very emotional songs and really engrosses the listener from the very first note to the last. Each band member plays several instruments in the band which would make for an absolutely incredible show. Most folk in bands cannot play two instruments, Sigur Rós can play at least five each. These instruments include synthesizers, keyboards, guitar, bowed guitar, banjo, harmonica, vocals, flute, tin whistle, oboe, clarinet, bass guitar, organ, glockenspiel, and many more.
The musical talent in this band is overflowing. Checking out Sigur Rós isn’t as much as something to do as it is a favor to yourself and ears.
