In between classes you see a teacher sharply dressed in a button down shirt, tie, khakis, and leather boat shoes, pushing a cart.
This teacher goes by the name of Mr. Travis.
Mr. Travis isn’t exactly new to Bethel Park High School. Last year he subbed for biology teacher Ms. Tongchinsub.
This year, Mr. Travis was hired for a permanent position as an English teacher.
Mr. Travis runs his classroom uniquely. He shares inspirational quotations, heart-jarring songs, and influential movies that share one common thing: a meaning behind the story.
People are curious how Mr. Travis got into English.
“I went to the University of Pittsburgh. I majored in natural sciences. I took a lot of English classes as well, as I was majoring in natural sciences,” Mr. Travis said.
This is Mr. Travis’ fifth year teaching.
Mr. Travis said, “I taught for three years in Maryland and got homesick. So, I taught here for half of last year.”
As Mr. Travis is an English teacher, he likes to read frequently. He also likes to play basketball with some of the employees at the high school.
He loves going out to eat and watching sports on television on the weekend.
Mr. Travis said, “I watch sports on TV. I like watching the Steelers. I’m a big college basketball fan.”
Mr. Travis is amazed at how nice the people are here at the high school.
“The people here are just nice people,” Mr. Travis said. “The students are nice kids, the other teachers are really nice, the administration is nice. I think it’s understated; you want to work where there’s good people.”
Mr. Travis’ personality will blend well with the culture at the high school.
Bethel Park warmly welcomes Mr. Travis aboard.
