Mrs. Chapin is a prenatal and child development and culinary arts teacher at BPHS. As a pastime away from school, she likes to go and watch Broadway shows at The Benedum Center in Pittsburgh, Pa.

She has been seeing Broadway shows since 2008, and according to her very detailed and nicely made spreadsheet, she has been to 111 shows. These shows include “Come from Away,” “In the Heights,” “Legally Blonde,” “Mean Girls,” “Newsies,” “Kinky Boots,” “Waitress,” and “Hadestown.”

When asked how she got into Broadway, she said, “My first show was called “Hair.” It was a ’70s hippie show that I probably shouldn’t have been watching as a child, but I was mesmerized by it.”

She also mentioned how her mother used to take her to see children’s theater shows at Mount Lebanon High School. But after seeing her first Broadway show, she eventually began to go on even more trips with her mother.

In her college years at Penn State, she had found a work-study job at the Eisenhower Auditorium and would work at the box office to sell tickets. She was able to get inexpensive Broadway tickets as a broke college student. She saw shows like “Rent,” “Chicago,” and “Stomp.”

She has even been getting season tickets for shows with her friend for 15 years!

When asked who she goes with now, she replied, “I bring my daughter with me. The most recent one being ‘Six the Musical.’”

Another interesting fact about Mrs. Chapin is that Broadway was her #1 genre in her Spotify Wrapped. She is also in her third year as the Ushers Club sponsor (for Fall Play and the Musical) because of her love for Broadway.
