Student Musician of the Week: Ethan Tabler
Seventeen-year-old junior Ethan Tabler has been involved in music since elementary school, and he currently plays piano, cello, and trombone.
He started out on piano in first grade and got involved with cello in third grade. In eighth grade, he learned to play the trombone and was the trombone section leader this past marching band season.
Ethan takes a variety of music courses at the high school, including concert band, marching band, jazz workshop, and symphonic orchestra. He is currently on his second year of being principal cellist in symphonic orchestra, and outside of school he is 5th cellist in the Pittsburgh Youth Philharmonic Orchestra.
Tabler learned trombone in order to join marching band, and he is now first trombone in concert band.
He does not plan to continue on with music as a career, but he said, “I am interested more in computer engineering, but I am excited to apply my musical and technological talents to working in a recording studio or other music tech applications.”
In addition to his other activities, Ethan also plays keyboard and cello in his church’s band, was previously involved in the pit orchestra for past musicals, and led the cello section in a piece symphonic orchestra performed at Telerama.
Ethan gets a lot of inspiration from his school teachers and private music teachers, about whom he said, “I’d like to thank Mrs. Glover, Mr. Derby, and Mr. Thompson for making my music experiences at the high school enjoyable and eye-opening.”
