On Tuesday, March 25, eight students from Bethel Park traveled to Washington and Jefferson College to participate in Three Rivers German Day.
The competition gathers schools from around the Western Pennsylvania area to compete in German related competitions, such as music, theater, poetry, and culture.
The competition also includes an arts and writing portion, but the students do not travel to the competition.
Five of the students participated in Culture Bowl. This is a trivia competition in which students test their knowledge of Germany and the German language.
Three seniors, Logan Tuite, Erin McMahon, and Hayley Lazzari, one junior, Rachel Dodson, and one sophomore, Jack Brownfield, participated this year.
Bethel Park has historically dominated the Culture Bowl competition for as long as the competition has been around. This year was no different.
Senior Logan Tuite took first place and junior Rachel Dodson took third.
The other three students took part in the poetry competition. In this competition, students must recite a German poem selected by the committee.
Bethel took home two prizes in this category as well. Senior Katie Zilcosky took third place, while Senior Eiren Burkhart won first place. She is the first Bethel student to take home first place in this category since 2004.
The students also did well in the arts and writing categories.
Senior Danielle Skaris took home first place in the painting category.
Sophomore Thomas Weber won first place in crafts.
Junior Adelai Flowers took second place in the drawing category.
Senior Eiren Burkhart took third place in the crafts category.
