1,2,3, Action! The camera zooms in on Kamiya as she begins her on-camera interview, “Who am I here with today?” and so forth; each question setting the stage for a captivating reel.

Kamiya Martin is a current senior at BPHS who brings dynamic energy to everything she does.

This is Kamiya’s first year taking Scholastic Publications. Even though Kamiya is a newcomer in the class, she’s been an involved participant in the Yearbook Club for the past two years!

As an active member of the school’s social media team, Kamiya conducts engaging interviews that highlight the diverse talents and stories within the community. Kamiya, along with fellow student ,Alyvia Sohyda, created the Instagram page, Hawksview, to dedicate their interviews to.

When asked why she decided to take Scholastic Publications, Kamiya responded, “It was important to me to dedicate time to Hawksview without missing any classes.”

Around school, Kamiya also plans to capture memories through the camera and help edit pages in the yearbook.

Beyond her media skills, Kamiya is a dedicated softball player, balancing her time between the high school varsity team and a travel team.

When she’s not on the field, she can be found babysitting or working on Ways and Means projects. Most days after school, Kamiya heads to the Planet Fitness gym.

In her free time, Kamiya loves seasonal activities like visiting pumpkin patches, baking treats, and watching scary movies outdoors. When the weather is nice, Kamiya enjoys picnics to watch the sunset.

A big fan of Frank Ocean, she dreams of doing karaoke with him.

Her favorite drink is the Starbucks Strawberry Açaí Lemonade Refresher with Dragon Fruit.

When asked what superpower she would want, she answered, “It would be super cool to have mind-controlling powers, so then I could make people do what I want”.

Although she doesn’t know where, Kamiya dreams of going to college to study either biology or psychology. Her preference for schools is in either North or South Carolina.

“I really love the beach and being in the summer weather!”

Kamiya’s commitment to both academic and extracurricular activities makes her a standout student and a strong role model for her peers.
