Just imagine you are about to watch the Bethel Park Marching Band perform its halftime show. Right in the middle you see senior Alyvia Sohyda smiling from ear to ear about doing her favorite activity in the world: Twirl. You may know Alyvia from the Friday night football halftime shows; however, have you ever gotten to know her more?

Alyvia, who became a Quill and Scroll society member less than a year ago, is the co-founder of the growing media page Hawksview.

As a new member of Scholastic Publications, Alyvia joined to interact with people and capture memories, whether taking pictures or interviewing BPHS students and staff. She also wants to work on the yearbook to create memorable documentation of students’ high school years.

When Alyvia is not a student, you can see her catching any hockey or football game, or relaxing by listening to music!

Alyvia has been a Bethel Park majorette for three years and is one of the current head majorettes.

She mentions, “I began baton twirling at three years old and have twirled competitively since I was seven.”

She also participated as a featured dancer in the Bethel Park musicals for the past three years.

When Alyvia finishes her senior year this spring, she states, “I hope to go to college and twirl wherever I go.”

She is not sure what she wants to study, but she enjoys working with people, especially kids.

If Alyvia could have a superpower, she says,” It would be telekinesis so that I could pick objects up with just my mind, specifically my baton when I drop at practice.”

If Alyvia could travel anywhere in the world, she would go to Greece to the beautiful beaches and try new foods.

Lastly, if you have ever seen Alyvia in the morning, you know she always has a coffee in her hand. She loves all coffee; however, she prefers Dunkin’ coffee to Starbucks. Her go-to drink there is an iced caramel latte, and her favorite drinks at Starbucks are a brown sugar shaken espresso or a dragon drink.

So, next time you see Alyvia perform under the stadium lights, make sure you remember that Alyvia is more than just a performer!
