The varsity wrestling team took the 15-minute drive to neighboring Mt. Lebo High School Wednesday night and was ready to do battle in its second section matchup. The Hawks took full control of the Devils winning their match 57-11.
Bethel took an early 12-point lead after Bella Rice and Aws Al Saadi won by forfeit at 107 and 114 lbs. respectively.
Lebo bounced back when Jenish Rimal was pinned at 121 lbs.
Colton Fisher got the Hawks’ momentum going again with a 37-second pin in the 127-lb. weight class.
Seth Miller followed that up with a forfeit at 133 lbs. making the score 24-6.
Aden Stout (pin at 139 lbs.), Ian Bucheli (tech fall at 145 lbs.), Ethan Higgins (tech fall at 152 lbs.), Maksim Miller (7-5 decision at 172 lbs.), Mathis Miller (tech fall at 189 lbs.), Hunter Goelz (fall at 215 lbs.) and Micheal Gibson (3-1 decision at 285 lbs.) added 33 additional points to their team score.
Overall, Bethel Park had 11 wins, two by decisions, three by technical falls, three by falls and three by forfeits.
The match of the night was at 285 lbs in which Michael Gibson defeated the No. 2-ranked wrestler in the WPIAL.
The Black Hawks are now 7-0 overall and 2-0 in their section. They head to Central Mountain High School for the King of the Mountain tournament Friday and Saturday.
They will participate in the prestigious Powerade tournament at Canon-McMillan High School over break on Dec. 27 and 28.
The Hawks return home on Monday, Jan. 6 when they will host Derry at 7 p.m.
