Though our Pittsburgh Steelers missed the playoffs this year, the NFL playoffs were off to an exciting start this past Saturday and Sunday.

The Colts, Chargers, and Eagles all won on the road, while the Seahawks were the only team to win at home.

The Colts defeated the Texans, 21-7, in Houston on Saturday afternoon.

The Colts struck early on their opening drive, scoring a touchdown and taking a 7-0 lead. After a Houston punt, the Colts marched right back to take a 14-0 lead. After that, scoring was hard to come by. The Colts put up a touchdown late in the first half and took a 21-0 lead. The Colts did not score the second half, but their defense shut down Houston’s offense. The Texans scored midway through the 4th quarter, but it was not enough to come back.

With the win, the Colts move on to the AFC Divisional Round to play in Kansas City against the Chiefs on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 4:35 p.m.

Following the Colts win, the Seattle Seahawks kicked off in Dallas against the Cowboys. The Cowboys defended home turf and beat the Seahawks, 24-22.

The Cowboys jumped on the scoreboard first with an early field goal but neither team scored the rest of the first quarter. In consecutive drives in the 2nd quarter, Seattle kicked a field goal to take a 6-3 lead. The Cowboys scored a touchdown late in the quarter to take a 10-6 lead at the half. The Seahawks scored a touchdown late in the 3rd quarter, but the Cowboys responded immediately to take a 17-14 lead. Dallas milked the clock and scored a touchdown with just over two minutes remaining in the game to take a 24-14 lead. Seattle would score again, but it was too little too late.

With the win, the Cowboys set a date in Los Angeles against the Rams in the NFC Divisional Round on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 8:15 p.m.

Sunday kicked off with the Los Angeles Chargers taking on the Baltimore Ravens. The Chargers won in Baltimore, 23-17.

Both defenses came to play in the first half as neither team scored a touchdown. The Chargers did kick four field goals and had a 12-0 lead at the half. The Ravens finally got on the scoreboard in the 3rd quarter, but the Chargers responded by scoring the first touchdown of the game, taking a 20-3 lead. The game seemed out of reach following another Los Angeles field goal, but the Ravens kept it interesting. They scored back-to-back touchdowns and got the ball back with just under a minute left in the 4th quarter down by six. The Chargers did not want to blow such a big lead, and their defense got the job done. They forced a Lamar Jackson fumbled and recovered with 28 seconds to go to seal the win.

The Chargers move on to face the Patriots in Foxborough on Sunday, Jan. 13 at 1:05 p.m.

The last game of the wild card round pitted the Philadelphia Eagles in Chicago against the Bears. The defending Super Bowl Champions Eagles beat the Bears in Chicago, 16-15.

Neither team scored a touchdown in the first half, but the Bears won the field goal battle. They took a 6-3 lead into the half. On the Eagles first drive of the 3rd quarter, they drove 83 yards for a touchdown to take the lead. The Bears responded in the 4th quarter with a field goal and a touchdown to take the lead by a score of 15-10. With time ticking away in the game, the Eagles scored to take a 16-15 lead. The Bears got the ball back with less than a minute on the clock and drove down the field to get in field goal range. With 10 seconds left, kicker Cody Parker lined up for a game-winning field goal. The kick went up, hit the upright, ricocheted off the goal post and bounced out. The kick was no good, and the Bears lost the game.

The Eagles will now face the Saints in New Orleans on Sunday, Jan. 13 at 4:40 p.m.
