After an impressive 6-3 win against the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday, Dec. 4 which featured a Patric Hornqvist natural hat trick, the 5X time Stanley Cup Champions Pittsburgh Penguins will face off against the New York Islanders on “Superhero Theme Night” Thursday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. at PPG Paints Arena.

Fans are invited to wear their superhero costumes and enter the Superhero Costume Contest in which they can win Penguins jerseys. Penguins jerseys will be given away to the best-dressed fans (one per period).

The New York Islanders had an unexpected 2017-2108 season as they missed the playoffs for the second consecutive season. The Islanders finished the 2017-2018 season with 80 points and were in seventh place in the Metropolitan Division which consisted of 35 wins, 37 losses, and 10 overtime losses.

The Islanders just finished up a brief two-game homestand with a 3-2 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night and a 3-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night.

They are now beginning a brief two-game road trip that goes through Pittsburgh on Thursday and Detroit on Saturday night.

The Penguins are currently 11-10-5 and in sixth place in the Metropolitan Division.

When Thursday night comes around, the Penguins and the Islanders will meet for third time this season, then they will play each other one more time in New York on Dec. 10.

Even though that Tavares is not with the Islanders, it should be an entertaining game on Thursday night, “Superhero Theme Night,” in Pittsburgh.
