Boys and girls to host tip-off tournament
Dec. 7 marks the start of the Hawks basketball season. Both boys and girls teams will play at The Nest on Friday. The boys team plays at 3:30 p.m. against Steel Valley. The Lady Hawks face Pine-Richland at 8 p.m.
Last season, the Hawks overall record was 13-10. Their section record was 7-5 losing to Mt Lebanon, Canon-Mac, and Baldwin. They advanced into the playoffs, but they fell short to Pine-Richland 66-62.
Junior guard Ryan Meis said, “I’m very excited about this season. I feel like it’s going to be a good year.”
Senior Alex Mullen is jumping for joy for the start of the season.
The Lady Hawks had a good run last season going 19-7. In section, they went 8-2 with both losses going to Peters. They won in the WPIAL quarterfinals against Latrobe but lost to Peters one last time in the semifinals. Next up was the State Playoffs. The Lady Hawks won the first and second round beating Peters and State College. Then their season ended in the third round falling to North Allegheny 44-34.
Lauren Mullen, a starting guard said, “I’m super excited to finally play after all these days of practice.”
Make sure you come out and support your Hawks basketball teams this season. Your Lady Hawks play on Monday and Thursday nights and your boys team plays on Tuesday and Friday nights. Good luck to the Hawks.
