FOCUSED, Emily Carter races in the State Championship meet at Hershey on Nov. 3.

On a very hilly and muddy course at the PIAA Championships in Hershey on Saturday, Nov. 3, sophomore Emily Carter finished 11th with a time of 19:34, making her one of the top 25 runners in Pennsylvania.

“I didn’t expect to place, so I was really excited to come in 11th,” Carter said.  “I was really nervous before the race because it was my first state meet and I didn’t know what to expect.”

A week prior to the State meet, Carter crossed the line in 3rd place at the WPIAL Championships. This was a huge improvement from the previous year in which she finished in 70th.

Carter credits her improvements to extra strength training and long runs.

She plans to continue running in indoor track this upcoming winter.
