Maria Cerro looks toward the basket in the Lady Hawks’ game against Peters on Monday, Jan. 22.

On Monday, Jan. 22, the Lady Hawks flew into Peters to claim the number 1 spot in the section.

The girls had previously played the Indians on Dec. 21 and lost by one point. They were looking to get the edge on Peters this time.

Unfortunately, the Lady Hawks struggled to keep up. At halftime, they trailed 31-16. They gained some ground in the second half but weren’t able to overcome the deficit. They lost  58-44.

The high scorers were junior guard Maria Cerro with 14 and freshman guard Olivia Westphal with 13.

“No comment,” said Cerro.

They are currently 4-2 in the section and 10-4 overall.

Their next section game is against USC (4-2, 7-6) on Thursday, Jan. 25 at 7:30 in The Nest. Their previous game against the Panthers on Jan. 4 resulted in a win for the Lady Hawks, 45-26.
