NFL has busy weekend

This past weekend was a busy one in the NFL playoffs. Everything took place, from amazing comebacks to controversial calls. Let’s take a look into all four games in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs.

It started Saturday at 4:15 p.m. when the New England Patriots took on the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens took a two possession lead twice in the game, but they could not keep the momentum long enough to deny the “Brady Bunch” from winning. With his last touchdown pass of the day, which turned out to be the game winner, Tom Brady passed Joe Montana for most touchdowns thrown in the postseason. After the game, Ravens coach John Harbaugh claimed that the Patriots used illegal plays throughout the game and were also able to successfully to hide it from the referees. He also appealed that the Patriots were not allowing the Ravens enough time to identify the eligible receivers. In a press conference, Tom Brady, the cool quarterback that he is, said in response to the Ravens coach, “Maybe those guys [should] study the rule book and figure it out.” Brady also mentioned that he thought it was a great weapon and warned onlookers to watch out for some more [plays like that] next week [in the conference championships].

Later that evening the Carolina Panthers and Seattle Seahawks dueled at Seattle. The Panthers seemed to have control for most of the first half and just a tad more. That is when things fell apart and Seattle’s “twelfth man” came alive. The Seahawks won, 31-17, and if you were watching, as I was, it’s hard to imagine how any team can overcome the home field advantage. After this game Seattle’s running back Marshawn Lynch had another post-game interview. Lynch was famous for not going to post-game interviews or only giving one word responses, which caused him to get fined again and again. When reporters started surrounding him, he asked them, “[Do you want to] try this again?” This time he used the phrase, “I’m thankful,” which is two words. We’ll have to see what the league says about this one.

The third game of the divisional championships occurred on Sunday afternoon between the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys. This was a great game that went all the way down to the wire. Toward the end of the game, the Cowboys were at the 32 yard line, and needing a touchdown to win. On fourth-and-5, quarterback Tony Romo fired to wide receiver Dez Bryant, who appeared to make an amazing catch. Unfortunately, the call was overturned by the referees, and the Packers ended the Cowboys season. With the win, the Packers set up a great match up with the Seattle Seahawks.

The last game was at Denver at 4:15 on Sunday between the Indianapolis Colts and the Denver Broncos. Although Denver quarterback Peyton Manning and his offense got to a fast start, the offense did not execute later down the stretch. For most of the game, QB Andrew Luck and his Colts led the game and drove the Broncos out of contention. This will be a hard loss for Denver and especially for Peyton Manning. Later, it was found out that Manning played with a quad injury in the game. At age 38, Manning is now the NFL’s all-time leader in postseason losses. He plans on playing another season, but he might not win another championship in his career. However, the Indinapolis Colts will continue onto the conference championship to face the Patriots next weekend.

Lastly, Dick LeBeau has officially resigned and not retired from his position as defensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh SteelersThis move surprised the Steelers organization and Steelers’ fans. The organization claimed that the split was not as mutual as LeBeau explained to the press.

An exciting weekend in sports ended on a high note, and we should see more high-paced action next week in the conference championship.
