Steelers close up gap in AFC North
This past Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers played the Bengals away after a disappointing game against the New Orleans Saints. The final score, 42-21, Steelers.
The game started out slow in the first quarter to only pick up in the next. Big Ben rolled the offense on a drive and capped it off by passing a touchdown to Heath Miller. The Bengals though were able to illuminate the Steeler’s defensive backfield by successfully completing many big plays starting with the long pass to Bengals wide out, A.J. Green. That big play was able to set up the 20-yard run by the Cincinnati quarterback, Andy Dalton. The Steelers were able to get a field goal just before the end of the half making it 14-10, Bengals.
Throughout the whole game, Le’Veon Bell imposed a threat to the Bengals’ defense by consistently making solid plays. He was able to put the Steelers back on top of the Bengals with a ten-yard reception in the end zone. But once again, Andy Dalton would take advantage of the vulnerable Steelers’ secondary by completing an 81-yard touchdown to Green, who ended the day with 224 yards receiving with the one touchdown. Little did they know, that would be the last time they scored!
As you know, the Steelers put up 25 more points in the last quarter. After the game, Ben Roethlisberger ended with 350 yards passing with three touchdowns. But it was Le’Veon Bell who stole the spotlight with a combined of 235 yards and 3 touchdowns running and receiving! He even was able to get compliments such as ” Bell is the best all around running back” from Ben Roethlisberger. There are even talks of having him as an MVP candidate as he has been consistent for the whole season.
It was a much wanted and needed win for Pittsburgh as they are trying to make it back to a playoff game for the first time since losing the Superbowl in 2011. To do this, the offense will need to do exactly what they did Sunday for the rest of the season, outscoring the other team. The defense will most likely not be able to fix their major problems this year and will just have to try and make stops whenever needed.
