On Wednesday, Jan. 29, the Bethel Park wrestling team traveled to Keystone Oaks to battle the Golden Eagles on their senior night. The Hawks, who were on a two match losing streak, were looking to break out of their slump and defeat the Keystone Oaks wrestlers. They did in convincing fashion, 49-21.
The night began at 106 pounds after the senior wrestlers and cheerleaders were honored. Unfortunately, neither team could field a 106 pounder, so there was no match.
The first real match began at 113 pounds where Bethel Park’s Theodore Gates looked to grapple with Golden Eagle Dominic Nerrone. Teddy used multiple cradles to post a major decision for the Hawks 12-2 over Nerrone. (4-0 Bethel Park)
The action moved to 120 pounds where Mike Smith was set to wrestle against Camden Anderson of Keystone Oaks. Smith ended up surrendering a fall to Anderson in 2 minutes 33 seconds. (6-4 Keystone Oaks)
Brandon Drusbasky then went out and received a forfeit for the Hawks at 126 pounds. (10-6 Bethel Park)
The Hawks then looked to Nino Bonaccorsi at 132 pounds to widen the lead. Bonaccorsi did just that with a fall over Logan Fawcett in 2 minutes 38 seconds. (16-6 Bethel Park)
At 138 pounds, Bethel Park forfeited to Golden Eagle Nick Conrad. (16-12 Bethel Park)
145 pounds featured Bethel Park’s Tom Kolodziej against Keystone Oaks’ Grant Walzer. Kolodziej made quick work of the KO wrestler, pinning him in 49 seconds. (22-12 Bethel Park)
Keystone Oaks was forced to forfeit the 152-pound weight class to Hawk wrestler Paul Dunn. (28-12 Bethel Park)
Sam Polen got the start at 160 pounds for the Hawks due to Alex Gates nursing a recent injury. Nonetheless, Polen took care of business getting the decision over Dominic Shelow from Keystone Oaks 5-0. (31-12 Bethel Park)
Jeremy Huwe received a forfeit from the Golden Eagles at 170 pounds. (37-12 Bethel Park)
The match then moved to one of the more anticipated duals at 182 pounds where Matt Nolan was set to wrestle against Keystone Oaks’ Jake Walker. It was a hard fought match but Walker came out with the win 6-2 over Nolan. (37-15 Bethel Park)
Keystone Oaks then forfeited the 195-pound weight class to Adam Montgomery. (43-15 Bethel Park)
Sam Gercak then took the mat for the Hawks at 220 pounds against Keystone Oaks’ Vince Lusardi. Gercak handled Lusardi rather easily scoring the fall in 3 minutes 14 seconds. (49-15 Bethel Park)
To end the night, the Hawks looked to two Allegheny County place-winners in Bethel Park’s Chris Pauley and Keystone Oaks’ Joe Kazalas. It was an exciting match with many flurries but Kazalas ended up catching Pauley and pinning him in 4 minutes 44 seconds. (49-21 Bethel Park)
On the night, the Hawks totaled 3 falls as they defeated the Keystone Oaks Golden Eagles in their own gym. This is a good momentum builder for the Hawks as they now turn their attention to the Montour Duals this upcoming weekend where they will look to dominate the competition just as they did in this match. This win brought the Hawks’ dual meet record to 7 wins and 4 losses on the season.
