As the winter sports season is now in full swing, let’s take a look back at the successes of the fall sports teams.
The cross country teams were both very successful. Tom Bailey, Kelsey Metheny, Hillary Boxheimer, and Amanda Ruschel all made it to states. The boys team had a 5-2 record. This included a victory over Baldwin, a team they had not beaten in 4 years. The girls team had a 6-1 record.
The boys golf team produced an 8-8 record. Sean Edgar qualified for states.
The girls team had a 5-8 record. Junior, Julia Kleszcz states, “We can improve upon this season, we can definitely do better next year.”
The boys soccer team had a superb season with a 12-6-2 record. They were the Section Champions, and WPIAL quaterfinalists. Ryan Thorsen, Matt Vater, and A.J. Vescovi were named All-WPIAL and played in the class AAA all-state senior all-star game. Ryan Thorsen, A.J. Vescovi, Sean Gallagher, Matt Vater, and Clayton Schrey were named to the all-section team, and Spencer Steinhaus was named an honorable mention.
The girls soccer team had a record of 8-10. The team had 10 players that scored this season, 5 of which had 3 or more goals. A.J. Baroffio and Alexis Keibler were named to the section all-star team.
The girls volleyball team had a record of 7-7. They placed 2nd in the Shaler tournament and won the South Fayette tournament. Sophomore, Stacey Kazalas, won the all-team hitter for the tournament.
The football team had a record of 4-5. They made it to the playoffs, but lost to Penn-Trafford.
All in all, a very good start to the 2011-2012 Sports Seasons at BPHS.
