On December 9th, at 1:30 in the afternoon, the Bethel Park Boys Varsity Basketball Team took the court for the first time this season in a matchup against the Hopewell Vikings, the first game of the annual Tip-Off Tournament, in front of a packed crowd as the entire student body was invited to watch.
The game was kicked off with the Vikings winning the tip. Then, after an exciting first possession stop, the Hawks immediately took control of the game. After the first quarter, the scoreboard read 17-2 Hawks.
The second quarter staggered on slightly slower, with a half-time score of 29-10.
During the third quarter, BP produced another 17 points, while Hopewell only scored 9.
Due to all of the hard work and effort previously given by the team, Bethel Park finished off with a 37 point victory.
Throughout the game, the leading scorers were Wyatt Hagerty and Brian Holland. Wyatt is the team’s tallest player at 6’10. Brian Holland is the starting point guard on the team. Other starters include Trey Coyne, Danny Timpona, Evan Schweitzer, Ryan Thorsen, and Cody Gilchrist.
The tournament continued with its finale on Saturday, December 10th. Bethel faced off against Strong Vincent at 2 PM. They barely pulled off a stellar win with a 48-46 final score.
