On Friday, Jan. 31, BPHS will host its own Polar Plunge in the early afternoon.
The Best Buddies Club encourages all Bethel Borough employees to join the event to help fundraise for the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania. Their goal is to raise $10,000, and they are currently at $9,000 but the number keeps growing.
And not just employees can fundraise, students can as well!
The top three sellers who have raised the most include paraprofessional Mary Jane McCall, who raised $1,070, sophomore Payton Purcell, who raised $860, and senior Morgan Schmude, who raised $420, so far.
Participants have to have a minimum fundraising of $40. Also, they get their very own Polar Plunge T-shirt for raising the $40 and jumping into cold waters.
Why should you plunge?
You get to dress up and it benefits a great cause!
Teachers and students group up in teams and dress up as certain characters. Last year, participants dressed up as “Spongebob and Patrick,” “Spiderman,” Avengers,” and so on.
Additionally, you help numerous Brave & Fearless Special Olympic athletes to compete in the sport they choose. It can help get athletes a step closer to achieving their dreams.
The Special Olympics of Pennsylvania states, “It is because I CAN and because of that I SHOULD.”
