As the new year begins, students at BPHS are kicking off a community awareness project to make a positive impact on those affected by hurricanes and other natural disasters.
In light of recent events and the severity of these natural disasters, the initiative couldn’t come at a better time.
DECA, alongside its Hawks for Hurricane Relief initiative, aims to collect essential travel-sized supplies to support those in need.
Throughout January, students, staff, and community members are invited to donate travel-sized items with expiration dates at least a year away.
These can include shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste, deodorant, hand sanitizer, and more. The initiative emphasizes the importance of these everyday items that often become luxuries for those displaced by disaster.
To facilitate the donation process, collection points have been established in designated boxes located throughout the school and in the local community.
This accessibility encourages participation from all corners, making it easier for individuals to contribute to this noble cause.
Donation boxes are conveniently located in the following areas:
- Main Office
- Mr. O’Brien’s room
- Mrs. Christenson’s room
- Mrs. Smoller’s room
- Spencer Family YMCA
- The Bean
Each of these locations serves as a key drop-off point, enabling students and community members to participate in the initiative, whether they are on campus or enjoying drinks at the Bean.
The items collected will be directly donated to the Brother’s Brother non-profit organization, which has a strong track record of effectively distributing relief supplies to those affected by hurricanes and other natural disasters.
This partnership not only ensures that donations reach the right hands but also instills a sense of responsibility in the students as they actively participate in the broader conversation about disaster aid and community resilience.
The community is encouraged to share information about donation locations and the items needed on social media to help expand the initiative’s reach.
Together, as a united front, BPHS students, staff, and the local community can transform compassion into action, ensuring that those who have faced unimaginable challenges receive the support they desperately need.
