Over 2,000 attend College Fair at BPHS

Mr. Bruce

Over 60 colleges were stationed in the gymnasium.

BPHS hosted the annual College Fair from 6:30 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 4 all throughout the gymnasium, cafeteria, and 4th floor.

The BPHS Counseling Department and Administration worked together with Peters Township, Upper St. Clair, and Mt. Lebanon High Schools in order to make this key event happen.

According to BPHS counselor Mr. Bruce, over 2,000 people attended the College Fair.

Students and their families were exposed to over 100 schools that came from 15 different states across the Country. Each college, from Allegheny College to Youngstown State, had their own booth set up with administrators that could give the students more guidance and information about the school and what it has to offer.

The College Fair is a formative opportunity for students to not only get more information on colleges they’ve already looked at but also discover new colleges and new opportunities that their future holds.

This event gives students a one-on-one chance to talk to administrators from each individual school and get more comfortable with the process of college searching.

A few students that attended the College Fair gave their thoughts about the event and how it helped them.

Did you like the College Fair?

Junior Alycia Simpson said, “Yeah it was super fun!”

Junior Alexa Dungee responded, “Yes, however, it was very crowded and kinda stressful with all the colleges just right in front of you.”

Dungee added, “…just about colleges and I also got a lot of informational packets and stuff which was cool.”

Do you think it is beneficial for high school students to attend the College Fair?

Simpson said, “Yes, because it gives [you] a better view of different colleges that I didn’t really know that much about.”

Dungee responded, “Definitely, because it gives you a head start on your future!”

Smith added, “Well it gives students different opportunities to expand their wide range of thoughts about what they want to do in the future and especially where they want to go.”

What colleges stood out to you that you are interested in?

Simpson said, “I like Slippery Rock, Pitt, Carlow, St. Vincent’s, Seton Hill, and Point Park.”

Dungee responded,  “I looked at Pitt, Penn State, Seton Hill, Slippery Rock, Robert Morris, Alabama, and Ohio State.”

Smith said, “I’m interested in Duquesne, La Roche, Shenandoah, Ohio, Pitt, and Penn State.”

What do you think the College Fair offers students?

Simpson said, “Lots of college info.”

Dungee added, “They get to talk to people that work for the college and they give you information about that specific college which is pretty cool.”

Smith responded, “The College Fair is a great way to look at all your options and helps to give you a jump start of college decisions.”

Even though the College Fair occurs annually, it isn’t every year that it’s held at BPHS. Students clearly took advantage of its proximity.
