Interact Club conducts book drive for the Brother’s Brother Foundation

The Interact Club is currently in the middle of a Book Drive that will last until April 26. In each rotunda, and in the main lobby, there are blue boxes where books will be collected to be donated to the Brother’s Brother Foundation.

The club is looking for used books in excellent condition, including textbooks, fiction, non-fiction, and reference materials with a copyright date less than 10 years old. Also, new office and school supplies will be accepted.

“Interact understands the importance of reading and the problem it is when someone doesn’t really get the chance to have that opportunity. The book drive is a chance to give those books to people to explore the world of books and knowledge that comes with it,” said Interact Club member Tessa Helfer.

Interact Club is a community service organization affiliated with Bethel Park Rotary, and is open to all students grades 9-12. The club completes two projects each year: one local and one international. They also coordinate a yearly food drive that benefits SHIM before Thanksgiving.

“Our international projects have included supporting polio eradication and supplying clean water filters in third world countries. We have also worked with retirement communities, food banks, and Special Olympics,” said club director Mr. Kallis.

When asked why students should donate to the book drive, Helfer replied, “You can be a hero to others because these much needed items can help jump start one’s brain and imagination for learning, and it’s an easy way to get involved and make a difference in your community.”

To get involved with Interact Club, you can email the president, Hannah Hutton, or talk to Mr. Kallis during school. The club meets on Mondays on the 2nd floor. Anyone is welcome to take part throughout the year.
